BRB Morphs

Brazilian Rainbow Boa Morph Glossary.

Normal Brazilian Rainbow Boa

Normal:

Hard to be said about a Brazilian Rainbow Boa due to their fantastic colouration, pattern & iridescence which is how they earned their name Rainbow Boa. Most of our collection consists of adult animals.

Striped Brazilian Rainbow Boa

Striped:

A recessive patterned morph first produced in the mid 1990′s, where the saddles and side cresents/ocelli of the snake contain striped and/or aberrant markings. It varies between each snake with the best results produced by breeding stripe x stripe animals.

Hypo Brazilian Rainbow Boa Hypo:

Hypomelanism is a recessive gene in BRB’s which affects the animals colour, making them lighter in appearance (reduced melanin). Where normal specimens display black markings, Hypo’s markings are chocolate brown in colour. The original Hypos were produce in 1994 from a pair of siblings which were bred together. We are currently working with Hypo BRB’s & plan to outcross them for genetic diversity.

Het Hypo Brazilian Rainbow Boa Het Hypo:

Normal in appearance but carries the Hypomelanistic gene, when bred to another heterozygous animal (of same gene) will produce a percentage of visual Hypo offspring. We are currently working with a group of Het Hypo Brazilian Rainbow Boas, with plans to produce visual Hypos offspring.

Anery Brazilian Rainbow Boa Anery:

Anerythrism is a recessive gene in BRB’s which affects the animals colour, making them darker in appearance (reduced red pigment). Where normal specimens are typically orange with black markings, neonates are silver & taupe with white crescents; adults express a brown colouration with white crescents & black markings. We are currently working with a new line of Het Anerys, with plans to outcross for genetic diversity.

Het Anery Brazilian Rainbow Boa Het Anery:

Normal in appearance but carries the Anerythristic gene, when bred to another heterozygous animal (of same gene) will produce a percentage of visual Anery offspring. We are currently working with a new line of Het Anery Brazilian Rainbow Boas, with plans to produce visual Anery offspring.

High Orange Brazilian Rainbow Boa High Orange:

Selectively bred for the brightest orange colouration.

We are working with some nice specimens whom we plan on breeding together.

High Red Brazilian Rainbow Boa High Red:

Selectively bred for the brightest red colouration.

We are working with some nice specimens whom we plan on breeding together.

Calico Brazilian Rainbow Boa Calico:

A patterned morph where areas turn white, this BRB expressed normal colouration/pattern until it reached 2/3 years of age where areas started turning white after shedding. This animal has gone through a further colour change; it will be interesting to see if it is genetic.

Leopard Phase Brazilian Rainbow Boa Leopard Phase:

A patterned morph (unproven) where the side crescents/ocelli of the snake are surrounded with small black spots, some specimens also display different head markings, we produced the Leopard Phase ourselves & are looking forward to proving it out/seeing if there is a super phase.

Eclipse Brazilian Rainbow Boa Eclipse:

A patterned morph (unproven) where the side crescents/ocelli of the snake are missing/blacked out.

We have some partial eclipse phase BRB’s in our collection.

Bullseye Brazilian Rainbow Boa Bullseye:

A patterned morph where the side crescents/ocelli of the snake are exaggerated which display black spots within the circle, it varies between each snake & is thought to be polygenic? We are hoping to add this gene to our collection in the future.

Pearl Brazilian Rainbow Boa Pearl:

A patterned morph where the side crescents/ocelli of the snake are exaggerated containing no black/pattern. These seem to be linked with Bullseye’s (See above).

We are now working with this gene in our collection.

Testimonials

If you’re looking for amazing Brazilian Rainbow Boa‘s then look no further then AS-Exotics. I purchased my Male CB13 BRB from Anthony who was very professional throughout and was more than happy to answer my queries. My snake arrived via specialist reptile courier safely & at the correct temperature. Lovely curious, docile temperament and is feeding very well on rat pups. He is an absolutely beautiful! Specimen with vibrant orange markings and is very healthy which shows how dedicated Anthony is to his snakes. I would highly recommend AS-Exotics to anyone looking for top quality Brazilian Rainbow Boa‘s.
